It's just too easy. Admitting you draw Mario is like women and masturbation. Some do it and admit it, some do it and lie about it. Mario is my generation's default when creativity takes a siesta, and that's awesome 'cause there are tons of badass Marios out there.

Don't know why, but blogger always lightens & desats the pic a bit & I'm too lazy to account for that in Pshop.

I've had the line work and grayscale painting sitting around since Sept 12th, kinda forgot about it. And I have to admit, I did hesitate whether or not I should post this for about 0.0023 seconds, evil self censorship trying to break in...next thing you know it'll be eating my graham crackers and telling all my friends that I smell- can't be havin that.

I always feel bad for whoever this is. This is a drawing from way back, Italy times. I saw this a lot 'cause Italians love dogs, yet in Milan there were only about two blades of grass, so this was a common sight on sidewalks. I never finished rendering it because I got to the point where I said to myself, “looks shitty enough.”

I never thought I'd say that, but today's picture degenerated into a series of quick speed paintings that I threw together. I used this gorgeous gallery for reference. Basically, tonight was good exercise in figure study, something that I haven't done in a while. If nothing else, my vocabulary of girl faces, poses, and bodies was expanded a bit.

Tomorrow: Cel shading- Too lazy to paint ten girls or efficient and cool-looking?

When I lived in Colorado, which has a very arid climate, the best thing for dry hands was cow's udder cream. I could shower in that stuff.

Voooooglio andare a letto adesso... But first here's this. This actually took me an hour to do because I kept falling asleep at the wacom. I like the idea of swans fitting together like a pizza on which tiny girls (or regular girls on giant swans, that sounds better) can nap on the ocean.

I'd say the only thing harder than drawing what I see is not drawing what I don't see, especially when it comes to dynamic perspective a forshortening.

I think I'm hitting a squishy, jellow-like wall in terms of original girl faces and bodies (or perhaps I've been swimming in it all along). Hopefully I can eat my way out by looking at some sweet sweet reference before whipping out tomorrow's seven peacocks or whooping cranes or whatever fowl is next.

I painted the rings, just like all the actual subjects of the song so far, last and with reckless abandon. It was kind of like a puzzle to make sure they were all overlapping right; I think I got it.

The girl in the back with platinum hair reminds me of anime or Sonic, or something like that. I've got to try and break out of my current "Elmer Fudd" girl head construction, but it's just so gosh darned cute and appealing.

Happy Obligatory Ice Level Day! This is the ice level, level 5-2, from Ninja Gaiden II, which I didn't even know existed until a couple days ago because I never got that far. I was pretty confident there was an ice level somewhere in the game (Obligatory, not optional in the NES days) so I watched a playthrough and sure enough, thar she slips and slides.

I reckon every time I paint I always do it differently. All I want for Christmas is something that slightly resembels a workflow! I'll admit it's fun to jump into the creative nether-world of art, where I never know where I'll end up, but by George it would be a little more efficient to have a rough guide. I'd also probably make more art if I didn't take all day to find a rendering style before starting a painting.

I've been trying to paint in Pshop all day. I'm digging the line art that I made, but I can't quite find the right combination of skill and "not sucking" to make it kick ass. I had to take a break and draw myself in a manner that accurately reflects my current state.

Almost two months ago, when I was going through Columbus, I had the chance to train at Westside Barbell with Louie and the rest of the guys (and a couple girls). It was an incredible experience. I almost started to think "Europe what? I'll just stay in Columbus and learn how to deadlift buildings."

Whoever came up with the 16:9 widescreen ratio stole it directly from Louie's proportions. What a crazy old man, 60 years old and still breaking PRs. Can't wait to train there again.
